Sword of the Horizon

We were fishing offshore out of Venice, Louisiana that afternoon. My boyfriend, his friend, and me. We made three drops and caught three swordfish.

We tagged and released the first, reset, and hooked up almost immediately on the second. By the third drop, we weren’t expecting another back to back bite, but this one must have dropped right on his head.

He was the biggest of the day!

He made long, steady runs, came up once, then went straight back down and stayed deep. It wasn’t rushed, but he fought every minute pulling drag, scoping out and cutting through the water’s surface. It was controlled pressure and patience until my boyfriend worked him to the boat.

When we got him in the boat, his bill lined up perfectly with the soon to be setting sun and split the horizon. It wasn’t staged, just one of those seconds offshore when everything comes together!
